CAR BRAKE SHUDDER, VAN BRAKE SHUDDER, TRUCK BRAKE SHUDDER
If your car begins to shake when braking, there are 2 main reasons but can be 5 reasons
why your brake pedal on your car, van or truck shakes when you put pressure onto the brake pedal.
• BRAKE DISCS (ROTORS) OR BRAKE DRUMS ARE NOT RUNNING TRUE.
In our opinion brake rotors warp and go out of true after a period of heavy braking causing extreme high temperatures and then the vehicle is parked. The area where a brake pad is held by the brake caliper does not get the same air flow to the disc as do the other areas of the disc (rotor).
The disc cools at a slower rate and warps the rotor. The rotor being machined in the photos is badly warped and was causing car brake shudder. If you have had a heavy braking period, keep the vehicle
moving for at least 10 minutes to allow even cooling of your brake discs and drums.
Note the different colours in the machined surface of the rotors beginning at "A" and going passed "B". The area to the outside of "A&B" has been machined whereas the area where the darker coloured area is needs another cut to properly true up this disc.
Before machining, as the rotor turns when on the vehicle the high spots on the rotor push onto the brake pad which pushes on the brake caliper piston which in turn pushes brake fluid back into the brake master cylinder. This efect can give a pulsing feeling to your foot on the car brake pedal and causing van or car brake shudder.
The discs all wear and end up with lips each side of where the brake pads sits. These lips are areas that may not have been machined and may have humps and with each revolution of the disc rotor catches the brake pad and can also cause a vibration — shudder.
• ABS BRAKE CONTROL UNITS MALFUNCTIONING.
ABS stands for anti lock braking system. It is important to change the brake fluid every
3 years. If you do not the brake oil gets contaminated with water. Brake Oil is deliquescent & absorbs
moisture from the air. The moisture plays havock with the valves in the ABS brake controller, they begin
to seize. |
