Geddes Automotive is an exhaust & muffler shop. We have the machinery and staff required to:

1) REPAIR LEAKING EXHAUST PIPE, WELD PIPES & REPAIR MUFFLERS:

Leaking front, intermediate and rear mufflers; Leaking diesel mufflers; Leaking exhaust pipes; pipe broken; It depends on how old the muffler or pipe is, is the exhaust leak because the exhaust muffler or leaking exhaust pipe has corroded away or have you got a cracked muffler or cracked exhaust pipe through stress. Has the muffler broken because of poor support?

If you have a cracked muffler or broken pipe because of stress then the steel is likely strong enough to be worth while welding and we should be able to weld your exhaust pipe or muffler. If the steel has thinned through corrosion then welding the exhaust pipe or muffler hole may last but another part of the leaking muffler system may develop another hole. Welding the exhaust pipe or to weld the muffler hole you see now may last but as another hole develops in another part of the exhaust pipe or muffler you may need another repair shortly after. The repair may not be a long term total repair but is a cheaper type of exhaust shop repair.

Fix Mufflers. Some mufflers on vehicles like BMW and Mercedes rust out on corners; we often fix mufflers like this by welding a plate over the rust hole. This can be a successful repair and last for some time.

Sometimes the seams of the tube rust but the steel either side of the seem is sufficiently strong and the exhaust leak can be successfully welded. We can weld pipe seams. Our muffler workshop is equipped with gas, arc and mig welding equipment.

We can inspect your leaking exhaust and advise you the options of a cheap or a good repair or replacement. We can also advise you of the approximate time each exhaust leak repair will last.

The most common term used by the WOF Testing Stations is "Rectify all exhaust leaks ".

2) REPAIR LEAKING EXHAUST MANIFOLDS, FLANGES & GASKETS:

There are a number of reasons that exhaust manifolds, flanges and gaskets leak.

Exhaust manifolds warp with heat, the gasket is no longer clamped tight and is damaged from the exhaust gasses. The studs or bolts stretch allowing the manifolds or flange to warp causing a leaking exhaust gasket.

Some exhaust manifolds crack due to the stresses forced on them.

We have the equipment in our workshop to extract broken studs and machine manifolds for exhausts and replace the leaking exhaust gasket. Geddes repair manifold leaks.

We can advise you and attend to the various types of repairs for any of these problems.

3) FIT REPLACEMENT EXHAUST MUFFLERS (REPLACE SILENCERS) & PIPES:

Our exhaust shop carries a large stock of bolt on parts at our ready to fit / install and parts we can weld into your system at our Onehunga Auckland muffler workshop.

We carry good quality mufflers and cheap mufflers. We can make up and fit (install) aftermarket exhaust systems. We can advise you of the options in quality and price to fit.

Silencers is another name used to describe a muffler. Resonators is a name given to a smaller muffler that is usually straight through and does not silence an exhaust as much as a muffler.

4) FIT FULL EXHAUST SYSTEMS:

Although we can fit a muffler system for you it is unlikely that we need to replace the full system due to corrosion or leaks. Most vehicles have sections of the exhaust and some mufflers made of stainless. Stainless parts can outlast the vehicle.

We can raise your vehicle on one of our Onehunga Auckland workshop hoists, check and test each part of your exhaust system and advise on the part and price options available. We usually only fit exhaust systems one or two sections at a time.

5) FIT CHEAP EXHAUSTS and/or CHEAP REPAIRS IF REQUESTED

A cheap muffler is usually smaller or doesn′t have as many baffles etc internally so is usually noisier and/or cause a power loss. Cheaper pipe will not have the aluminium coating so will not last as long as a better quality pipe.

When an exhaust gets a rust hole (corrosion hole) it is because with age the steel has thinned in that place until no steel is left. The rest of that pipe or muffler is the same age so will also be thinner. Our staff are very good at welding rust holes but another part of the pipe or muffler may develop a rust hole shortly after the repair.

So long as there is some steel to weld to we will be able to do this for you. Sometimes the seams of the tube rust but the steel either side of the seem is sufficiently strong and can be successfully welded.

Mufflers sometimes get stress cracks and the steel is OK around the crack. Welding these is usually successful.

Sometimes it is more economic to replace that part or exhaust section.

6) COSTS FOR EXHAUST REPAIRS OR TO REPLACE A MUFFLER OR EXHAUST PART:

Prices vary depending on vehicle engine size, which muffler, the pipe size and the quality of muffler and the condition of the pipes either side of the muffler.
