Geddes Automotive Auckland have automotive specialists scanners, we fix / repair & reset srs airbag & seatbelts warning light problems for cars vans & trucks that have failed their WOF or COF. We fix car srs airbag & seatbelt electrical fault problems. We will connect one of our computer scanners to your car air bag SRS or seatbelt system and retrieve the fault code history. This should indicate what area of the vehicle has the auto electrical fault. We can then test the circuits in that area to locate the fault.

The majority of the time the fault is caused by damaged wiring. For just a verbal report on the computer history will cost $55 + GST. It may only give you a code (If this is what you want, please write this on the booking in form). Most diagnostic costs range from $98.90 and repairs from $150 + GST.

WHAT DOES THE AIRBAG OR SEATBELT SYMBOL LOOK LIKE?

Refer to the images to the right & above. The symbol that appears on the dashboard of your car is of a person sitting in a seat with seat belt on and of a person sitting in a seat with seat belt on and a large beach ball in their lap.

WHAT DOES SRS STAND FOR?

It stands for — Supplemental Restraint System. It mainly refers to the air bag electronic system in your vehicle. When you first turn on your vehicles ignition this light (& others) will illuminate on your vehicles dash board. If working correctly means no open circuits in the computer system then the light should come on for a few seconds as the computer tests the circuits, then the air bag light should go out. This indicates that the system is working correctly. If the air bag light stays on this means there is a fault in the system.

When the SRS or seatbelt warning light is on your seatbelts and airbag system SRS will not be protecting you or your passengers — your vehicle will not be in a warrant of fitness state — it would fail a WOF test.

Some air bag srs and seatbelt systems have pre — tensioners attached to the seat belts. If the crash sensors detect a crash the air bag system will activate the pre — tensioners, pulling the seat belts tight against you and firing the air bags. Both units are usually fired with gun powder. If the SRS (or seat belt) light is on, this process will not work.

It can be dangerous to activate these if you are not sitting properly in the vehicle. We strongly recommend you do not attempt repairs unless you have had suitable training.
