Geddes' recommended services and car service periods has been developed to provide your vehicle with the minimum care we believe is required.

'Basic'

Car service (Van & Truck Service) every 10,000 km's or 6 monthly except when Medium, Major or Maxi service is performed.

If the vehicle is used in severe driving conditions then the engine oil should be changed every 2,500 km's and the air filter checked.

Clean / replace engine breather filter. Not included in Medium, Major & Maxi service. $25.00 + GST.

Valve adjustments / clearances. Not included in Medium, Major & Maxi service. There are a large number of engine types and number of cylinders. Some engines have adjustable valve clearances. On engines which have adjustment, they should be checked every 40,000 km's Cost is on a time and material basis. Price will be estimated if requested.

Timing belt (cam belt) replacement @ 100,000 km's Not included in Medium, Major & Maxi service. Refer to our section on our index for 'Cambelts'.

Automatic Transmission brake bands. If applicable adjust every 40,000 km's Not included in Medium, Major & Maxi vehicle service. Price will be estimated if requested.

Automatic Transmission Oil Change. Not included in Medium, Major & Maxi service. Refer to the Geddes 'Index' 'Automatic Transmission Flush'. This service pumps and flushes the oil through the oil galleries, internal filters and torque converter. Just draining the oil from your automatic transmission may only remove 25% of the oil in your system. Dirty / contaminated oil will remain. A Flush replaces 99% of the oil.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUSH SERVICE:

1. Is your car automatic?

2. Do you know that your automatic transmission requires regular servicing?

3. Your owners manual will specify when that should be.

4. We recommend a full automatic transmission flush at approximate intervals of every 2 years or 20,000 kilometres.

Automatic transmissions are like vehicle engines, they need maintenance or they will fail sooner than a well serviced transmission. Transmissions failures are most often due to overheating. Over heating can be caused by contaminated oil and build up of sludge in the oil ways and filters. Just draining the oil out of the drain plug will not remove the oil in your automatic gearbox torque converter. Draining the oil from the drain plug may only remove approximately 25% of the contaminated oil. A normal vehicle service does not normally flush your automatic transmission. A thorough flush using our flushing machine will help:

• Improve rough & hard shifting;

• Prolong the transmissions life;

• Replace all the transmission oil;

• Clean oil ways.

Total price for an Automatic Transmission flush until further notice is from:

$135.00 + GST.

(Some conditions apply. Includes up to 8 litres of oil)

$170.00 + GST.

(Includes up to 12 litres of oil) Geddes recommend this flush, the more new oil flushed through the transmission the better the service.

Water Pump Replacement:

Some engines water pumps are mounted external of engine covers and can be easily seen. They are normally mounted at the front of the engine (this could be on the LH side of the vehicle but some are on the RH side) Look for the radiator pipes coming from it.

If the water pump is leaking you would likely be able to see water dropping from around this area.

Water pumps have bearings and seals. The coolant in the radiator should have an added product usually called antifreeze. Antifreeze is also a lubricant to lubricate the water pump seals. If the coolant (radiator water) is not replaced under normal servicing (in our opinion every 3 years, or more regularly if you have to keep adding water to your cooling system) then the water pump seals could fail prematurely because of the lack of lubricant.

Total price for a water pump replacement can be from as little as:

$160.00 + GST.

If the water pump is under the front engine covers then they are usually driven by the cambelt. If yours is like this then unless the cambelt has been changed and doesn't need changing again, the Total price for a water pump replacement can be from as little as:

$310.00 + GST.

Next service due light: Some vehicles lights are reasonably simple to reset, some require a number of steps to follow, some require us to connect our computer scanner; some vehicles require the removal of the dash.

Some service lights can be reset at no cost. Our listed prices do not allow for the cost to reset this light on a large number of vehicles. We recommend you tell us if you require us to reset the service light and ask us for a costing for this service.
